International celebration to thank donors

ERIE, PA – Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. However, less than 10 percent of those who are eligible to give actually donate on an annual basis. To help bridge this gap, Nexcare Brand, in partnership with America’s Blood Centers, is proud to announce the fifth annual Nexcare give program. A national effort to raise awareness about the need for blood donation and inspire action, the Nexcare give program shines a light on World Blood Donor Day to thank those who give and encourage others to get involved.

Friday is World Blood Donor Day; over 100,000 people worldwide will give blood Friday to celebrate the miracle of blood donation. Nexcare is supplying all blood banks nationwide with special ‘Give’ bandages for the occasion. This year’s bandages feature terrific seasonal designs to remind us that blood is needed year round.

“We always talk about giving local,” said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “But it’s good to see the entire global effort to save lives.”

All donors this month are entered to win one of five $500 Home Depot gift cards.

The Community Blood Bank is open from 8a.m. 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required but no appointment is ever needed.

Kick off summer in a healthy way

ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank has teamed up with the Glenwood Park YMCA and Walgreens on 38th and Peach street to help blood donors a kick off summer in a healthy way!

Each day this week, June 18th through the 22nd, someone will win a FREE 30 day Family Membership to the Glenwood Park YMCA and a beach towel, sunscreen, aloe, lotion and frisbee courtesy of Walgreens on 38th and Peach street.

“What a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle!” says Dan Desrochers, director of marketing at the Community Blood Bank.  “We are so grateful to have the support of Glenwood Park YMCA and Walgreens on 38th and Peach street, especially with the 4th of July Holiday just around the corner.”

Summertime is one of the hardest times on the blood supply.  With high schools and colleges out of session and people taking vacation, the Community Blood Bank sees a decrease in donors.  At the same time, the need for blood increases due to accidents from increased travel and outdoor activities. The Community Blood Bank needs at least 800 units of blood a week to maintain and safe and adequate blood supply for local hospitals. The Community Blood Bank is asking all donors, new and lapse, to donate blood this summer.

Community Blood Bank is the exclusive provider of blood products to all the hospitals in Erie, McKean, Elk, Potter and Warren counties and Titusville Area Hospital.  The Community Blood Bank is also the primary supplier of blood and blood products to all the hospitals in Chautauqua, Tioga and Allegany counties.
