  ERIE, PA – Labor Day Weekend is normally one of the three worst weekends of the year for blood usage so having a safe blood supply before the holiday is important for public safety. The local blood supply has been in and out of shortage territory for about a month.

The Community Blood Bank has once again teamed up with Country Fair to give out 25 gas cards (with a total value of $500) at random on Wednesday. The gas cards range in value from $15 to $100 and donors who don’t receive a card still receive a coupon for a 6” sub from Country Fair so no one goes home empty handed.

“Labor Day weekend is approaching fast and we need to be ready.” Said Dan Desrochers at the blood bank, “We’re hoping for success with another great event from Country Fair!”

The blood supply has improved a bit since last week but levels are still much lower than they should be. Every extra donor will help save a life.

The Country Fair Great Gas Card Giveaway returns to help bring the blood supply back to pre-holiday levels. The first 100 people to come on Wednesday January 2nd at the blood bank’s main office at 26^th and peach Streets in Erie will receive a $15 Country Fair Gas Card when they give blood. Doors open at 8am.

 Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds & not be sick. No tattoos or piercings in the past 12 months. No appointment is needed.

Country Fair’s Great Gas Card Giveaway a HUGE success!

Standing room only Monday morning July 2nd at the Community Blood Bank’s main office at 26th & Peach St. in Erie PA.  

The Country Fair Great Gas Card Give Away was a HUGE success at the Community Blood Bank, the first 100 people to come on Monday July 2nd  received a $15 Country Fair Gas Card when they gave blood. Doors opened at 8am and there was a line. 70 donors signed in during the first hour. By comparison a good day at the blood bank is 50 donors.

The Community Blood Bank is raffling off a $100 Country Fair gas card for donors who arrive after the $15 gas cards have been all given away. There is also a $100 gas card raffle for Tuesday July 3rd for donors.

“We are so grateful for Country Fair’s generosity.” Said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the blood bank, “The blood supply will be at safe levels for the holiday because of Country Fair!”

Blood Bank forced to buy blood for the second time this summer

Serious Blood Shortage Continues 

ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank, for the second time this summer, was forced to purchase blood from outside the area in an attempt to limit the seriousness of the current blood shortage that has been affecting our area since Memorial Day Weekend. 50 pints of type A Positive blood have been purchased from Illinois as a temporary solution to a larger problem.

 July 4^th weekend is traditionally the worst time of the year for the local blood supply and despite an aggressive advertising campaign and a terrific promotion, the Community Blood Bank still can’t recruit enough donors to keep up with very heavy blood usage locally.

 Country Fair Great Gas Card Giveaway continues: Every day through July 9^th a lucky donor who gives blood at 26^th & Peach will win a $100 Country Fair gas card and one winner overall will win a $500 gas card generously donated by Country Fair.

 “It is a tough struggle,” Says Dan Desrochers Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “And it will continue until after Labor Day if we don’t get some traction.”

 The Community Blood Bank is located at 26^th & Peach in Erie and is open 8am to 6pm Thursday and Friday and on Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm. No appointment is needed to save a life.
