BLOOD SHORTAGE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER WEEK

December 30, 2013

NEW HOURS FOR 2014 AT 26TH & PEACH LOCATION IN ERIE

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY 8am to 5pm

SATURDAYS 9-12:30PM

ERIE, PA – This local blood shortage is expected to continue until at least the end of the second week of January as the Community Blood Bank waits until mobile blood drives resume at the local high schools, colleges and businesses as things get back to normal after the holidays. 70% of all blood donated to the Community Blood Bank gets donated at mobile blood drives.

The Community Blood Bank is also changing the hours at the fixed site at 26th & Peach in Erie, closing now at 5pm instead of 6pm. This extra 5 hours per week of staff time will now be used on mobile blood drives.

“We extensively studied when our donors come in,” Said Dan Desrochers at the blood bank. “And we think this change will be a better allocation of our resources to help ensure a safe blood supply. The trend is for more people to give blood at our mobile blood drives and we want to make sure we have more staff hours to handle these donors.”

The Community Blood Bank closes New Year’s Eve at 12:30pm and is closed for New Year’s Day. We reopen 8am Thursday January 2nd. New hours for 2014: we now close at 5pm instead of 6.

BLOOD BANK CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE TO

RECRUIT ENOUGH DONORS

ERIE, PA –The blood shortage affecting the region continues as continued heavy blood usage this weekend prevented the blood supply from recovering.  The Community Blood Bank is appealing to the public to recruit more people to come and give blood this week at the main office at 26th & Peach Streets in Erie. Donors can sign in Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm and no appointment is needed to save a life.

The wintery weather is expected to dampen turnout at regional blood drives as slick roads keep people from travelling unnecessarily.

The Community Blood Bank is located at 26th and Peach and is open Monday -Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm. No appointment is needed to save a life.
