Win a 4-day trip for 4, including air, hotel & tickets to Walt Disney World in Orlando, worth $4,000!

ERIE, PA –Due to its great success; the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania is repeating its biggest promotion of 2012. From Aug. 1-31 everyone comes to give blood at the Community Blood Bank (at 26th & Peach Street) or on a mobile blood drive can enter to win a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando! This trip is valued at $4,000 and includes airfare, hotel stay at a Disney hotel and four Park-Hopper tickets to Disney parks for four people!

The blood shortage that started earlier this month continues as more blood is being used than there are donors to give it. As the end of summer approaches people become busier and are unable to come and give blood. Labor Day Weekend is normally one of the three worst weekends of the year for blood usage so having a safe blood supply before the holiday is important for public safety. More donors are urgently needed to come give blood before things turn critical for local patients.

“Labor Day weekend is approaching fast and we need to be ready.” Said Dan Desrochers at the blood bank, “Hopefully our Give Blood: Go To Disney! promotion will give us a little magic!”

The Community Blood Bank of NW PA & WNY is licensed by the FDA and holds permits from the New York Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Department of Health and has been saving lives since 1966. It is accredited by the AABB and CLIA and is a member of America’s Blood Centers.

The first 100 Donors tuesday receive a free burrito from Moe’s!

Community Blood Bank plans event to make sure Labor Day Weekend goes well

ERIE, PA – The Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the three worst weekends of the year. People travelling, doing outside activities and generally enjoying the last bit of summer usually increases the amount of blood needed at local hospitals.  So the Community Blood Bank has teamed up with Moe’s Southwest Grill to make sure there’s no interruption of the blood supply. The first 100 people who donate blood Tuesday September 3rd, 2012,  will receive a free burrito certificate generously donated by Moe’s Southwest Grill on Interchange road & Route 99 across from the mall. One lucky donor Tuesday will win a $100 gift card to Moe’s as well.

The Community Blood Bank is closed Monday & reopens Tuesday at 8am.

“We are in good shape now and we plan on keeping it that way,” Says Dan Desrochers Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “We love Moe’s burritos & salsa; nothing better to eat during a football game.”

The Community Blood Bank at 26th and Peach will be closed Monday September 3rd. Community Blood Bank is open from 8a.m. 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required.

CRITICAL BLOOD SHORTAGE CONTINUES

September 7, 2011

ERIE, PA – Very modest donor turnout Tuesday was not enough to stop the dropping blood supply levels. It will take many more people volunteering to end this critical blood shortage.  Officials at the blood bank expect to struggle until all of the high school and college blood drives resume in about a week. 27% of all blood donated to the Community Blood Bank comes from students under 23.

Give Blood: See Hockey! Hockey Season is fast approaching and the Community Blood Bank will be giving one lucky donor who donates at 26th and Peach St in Erie this month four tickets to see the Pittsburgh Penguins play the Buffalo Sabres in Pittsburgh on October 15th.

“We can’t wait for the schools to settle in,” Says Dan Desrochers Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “But until then we’d like everyone else who hasn’t donated this summer to come in and help out.”

All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street.  Community Blood Bank is open from 8a.m. to 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required.

BLOOD SUPPLY DROPS SHARPLY BEFORE LABOR DAY WEEKEND

August 31, 2011

ERIE, PA – Very heavy blood usage by local patients during the past two days has caused the local blood supply to drop sharply right before the Labor Day Weekend. Labor Day Weekend is traditionally one of the three worst weekends of the year for usage and this drop even before the weekend begins could spell trouble for the local blood supply.

While Hurricane Irene did not cause damage in Erie County, the effects of the storm are actually impacting the local blood supply. Blood drives up and down the East Coast were canceled as Irene blew through, causing the loss of thousands of blood donations in this part of the country. As a result, blood that would normally be available for purchase by the Community Blood Bank in emergency situations has been diverted to the blood centers that were forced to cancel drives.

“We have to make sure our donors are providing enough blood locally right now,” said Dan Desrochers, director of marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “We don’t have the option to buy blood from other blood centers. That safety net is not there.”

All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street.  Community Blood Bank is open from 8a.m. to 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required.
