LSCC-2Each day this week a donor will win a golf foursome with cart at

Lake Shore Country Club

ERIE, PA –The Community Blood Bank has again teamed up with the Lake Shore Country Club for a terrific week long promotion to get a strong start for the Memorial Day weekend. One donor each day that comes into 26th & Peach can enter to win 18 holes of golf for four plus a cart to Lake Shore Country Club’s championship course and one lucky donor this week will win a golf foursome and Sunday brunch for four to the Grill Room which overlooks Lake Erie and plus a $100 gift card the Erie Sport Store.

This week starts the first of 20 weeks straight where the Community Blood Bank will be holding a promotion to ensure a safe blood supply this summer.

Memorial Day Weekend is traditionally one of the three worst weekends of the year for blood usage (lots of travel & activities) and it kicks off the unofficial blood shortage season so going in with the blood supply at high levels will really make a difference for local patients.

“Summer is here and everyone wants to get out on the links,” Said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the blood bank; “And Lake Shore Country Club’s generosity will help get them there.”

Blood bank’s 20 weeks of summer starts Monday

Gas cards, a big trip, Steelers tickets and lots of food from local businesses to entice people to give.

ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank has made plans that should hopefully keep the blood supply this summer. Summer is the hardest time of the year for the blood supply: usage goes up with travel and summer activities but donations fall with students out of school and vacations.

20 weeks end at the beginning of October when the regular schedule resumes. The CBB will give away thousands of dollars in donated gifts to donors. For June, July, August and September there will be large month-long promotions for donors across the 10 counties supplied. In Erie there will be special weekly promotions to get donors to come in at 26th and Peach Street to give.

“We did great last summer and are planning a repeat,” Said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the blood bank, “We hope to keep the supply at 100% all summer long.”

The Community Blood Bank at 26th and Peach is open from 8a.m. to 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required.

46th Annual donor dinner

314 local blood donors to be honored Thursday, April 18

ERIE, PA – Simply the Best- It is the best way to describe the calendar year 2012 for the Community Blood Bank of NWPA & WNY (CBB) and it will be the theme for its 46th Annual Donor Dinner this Thursday night.

Not once, in a twelve-month period, did CBB encounter a blood shortage.  The weekly goal of recruiting, on average, 800 donors was shattered due to the hard work of CBB’s Recruitment Department.   As a result, CBB was able to export blood and blood products to other blood centers around the country that were in need.

CBB is attributing some of its success to changes within its marketing plan, which included several major promotions that helped to bring in extra donors.  However, the majority of the credit goes to the loyal donors who selflessly come in time after time to give blood.

Photo Op: On April 18, CBB will be holding its 46th Annual Donor Dinner at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel, located at 2800 West 8th Street, Erie, 6:30p.m.  CBB will be recognizing local blood donors for their milestone donations in their lifetime, with the highest award to be presented at 105 gallons!  Star 104’s Jessica Curry and Craig Warvel are the speakers for the evening’s event with Warvel receiving his 10-gallon whole blood donor award. Mazza Vineyards has donated sparkling wine for the evening’s ‘Champagne Toast’ and the party favors are printed wine glasses for attendees.

“It’s an achievement that should be celebrated,” says Dan Desrochers, director of marketing at CBB.  “Not only are do are we celebrating how great of a year 2012 was, but we will also be honoring the dedication of 314 local blood donors for their milestone donations!”

WEAR THE GREEN & GIVE THE RED!

March 12, 2013

shamrock-plant First 75 donors Friday get a pot o’ shamrocks!

ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank is hoping people will share their luck of the Irish before Saint Patrick’s Day by giving blood. This Friday March 15th the first 75 donors who come to the blood bank will receive a pot of shamrocks generously donated by Joel’s Flower Shoppe. The Community Blood Bank is worried that local hospitals will need extra red this holiday weekend with all of the festivities so they are hoping for a few extra donors Friday to get through it.

Make a difference for this Saint Patrick’s Day by wearing the GREEN and giving the RED.

“Give blood before this St. Patrick’s and share your luck!”  Said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the blood bank; “These shamrocks are a great promotion; and I promise whoever gets your blood will feel lucky too!”

All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street.  Community Blood Bank is open from 8a.m. 6p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9a.m.—12:30 p.m.  Photo ID required.

BLOOD SHORTAGE CONTINUES

January 23, 2013

blizzard-by-wsdotweather continues to cause problems

new concerns for the weekend

ERIE, PA –The blood shortage that began last weekend continues as the weather affects the number of people who come to donate.  The bitter cold and treacherous driving conditions have caused numerous donors to delay donating, just when they are needed most.

There are barely enough donors coming in to meet current needs, but certainly not enough to replenish the supply back to safe levels or to cover for the weekend, when very few people donate but when hospitals typically need a lot of blood. Everyone is urged to come and give blood before the weekend if possible, although they’ll still be needed next week.

“I know it’s cold, but giving blood gives you a warm feeling inside,” said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “We’ll treat you right once you get here!”

The Community Blood Bank is located at 26th and Peach and is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm. No appointment is needed to save a life.

CRITICAL BLOOD SHORTAGE

January 21, 2013

O neg (emergency blood type) EXTREMELY LOW

SUPPLIES DROPPED SUDDENLY, WEATHER NOW A FACTOR

ERIE, PA – A variety of factors have contributed to this sudden, critical blood shortage. Much heavier than expected blood usage, fewer donors due to the holiday, more donors with the flu, and now the weather have all conspired to create the first blood shortage for the Community Blood Bank in over a year and it’s a big one.

Based on what the hospitals are asking for and for the projected numbers of donors at upcoming drives, the blood supply will continue to fall for the rest of the week. Donors are urgently needed to come and give blood as soon as they can to help save lives.

“It’s everything all at once,” said Dan Desrochers, Director of Marketing at the Community Blood Bank. “We just aren’t able to get enough donors to meet the local need.”

The Community Blood Bank is located at 26th and Peach and is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 12:30pm. No appointment is needed to save a life.
